DESCRIPTION

House for British shorthair cats and their breeder.
‘The cohabitation of humans and cats’ is the main concept of this project. It’s no longer human bringing the cats into his/her house and let cats accommodate. Cats have their territories with cat scale in this house, and so does the breeder. Sometimes they share the space while sometimes keeping apart. The key is to make a comfortable environment for both humans and cats with different body scales from this house.
The big L-shaped wall is essential. It visualizes the division in humans’ space and cats’ one; The scale of stairs and doors for humans are very restrained while cats’ are more decorated and flexible.

Cat: fun, nature
The built-in cat tower in this wall directly connects the space vertically, giving a more dynamic visual entertaining across the cats’ part. The natural oak cat tower creates a relaxed and warm atmosphere for the cats. At the same time, it shows a striking contrast with man-made concrete tiles.

Human: minimal, commercial
The client has a common living area on the ground floor, guest serving area on the first floor, and her own private space on the second floor. The simple flow and minimal arrangement of the furniture define the concept in the human area. Also, white concrete tiles on the floor produce a calm and pleasant feeling for humans.
